Trump commutes Stone’s Sentence

US President has commuted the prison sentence of his former adviser and a detailed friend Roger Stone. The decision came after Stone’s appeal of custodial presence after 40 months of being rejected by the Washington DC court of appeals.
He was convicted of providing false information to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering.

Stone was one amongst the six people on the US President aide found guilty on charges linked to a DoJ probe that alleged Russia tried to spice up the Trump 2016 campaign. The 67-year-old had to report back to a federal prison in Jesup, Georgia, within the next week.

Who is Roger Stone?

Stone has worked with Republicans since the late 80s and maybe a fan of President of the United States. In the 1990s, Stone worked as a lobbyist for Mr. Trump’s casino business and later helped his President friend’s unsuccessful White House run in 2000.

He is also said to be the one that advised his friend to endure the presidency again.

White House Response

The White House said in an exceeding statement: “Roger Stone may be a victim of the Russia Hoax that the Left and its allies within the media perpetuated for years in a trial to undermine the Trump Presidency.”

The statement comes with Trump trying to point out that the Department of Justice prosecutors under special counsel Robert Mueller try to prosecute. Stone supported previously failed investigations associated with Trump campaign colluding with the Kremlin.

This is why the out-of-control Mueller prosecutors, desperate for splashy headlines to complete a failed investigation, set their sights on Mr. Stone,” said the statement.
The White House also suggested that the FBI had tipped off CNN about their pre-dawn raid on Stone’s house, noting that a camera crew for the cable network was on the scene to record the arrest.

Roger Stone has already suffered greatly,” the statement said. “He was treated very unfairly, as were many others during this case. Roger Stone is now a free man!”

Loyal friend:

It’s hard to mention the president’s decision to commute his long-time friend and political counselor is surprising, but it’s still shocking. While the president has called the special counsel investigation that prosecuted Stone a sham and a partisan witch hunt, Stone was duly convicted of pretty serious crimes.

Mr. Trump isn’t the primary president to issue controversial pardons or commutations for friends and associates, of course.

“With this commutation,” said the highest Democratic lawmaker, “Trump makes clear that there are two systems of justice in America: one for his criminal friends, and one for everybody else.”

Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez said: “Is there any power Trump won’t abuse?” Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren said it showed Donald Trump was the foremost corrupt president in history.

Why was he convicted?

Mr. Roger stone was found guilty in an endeavor to prove he had not contacted Wiki leaks for a matter related damaging emails about Mr. Trump’s 2016 Democratic election rival Hillary Clinton. within the House Intelligence Committee.
US intelligence officials have concluded the messages were stolen by Russian hackers.

Reports say that he knew the WikiLeaks would disclose over 19,000 emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee servers.
