It was the night of Tuesday, August 25, when Messi informed Barça via that infamous burofax bomb that he wanted to leave the club this summer.
But the Catalan giants stood their ground, insisting that the 33-year-old was still under contract and any club interested in buying him would have to pay his € 700 million buyout clause.

Earlier this week Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, flew to Barcelona and met with his son’s lawyers before holding talks with Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Messi’s field was reportedly adamant that he wanted to leave, with Manchester City believed to be his most likely destination.
But Barça said they would take the matter to court if he breached the contract, both the club and LaLiga insisted that it was still in force for another season.
And then, on Friday, events took a surprising turn when Jorge Messi issued a statement in which he claimed that the family was convinced that the contract and the 700 million euro clause had expired and that the six-time Ballon winner Oro could leave the Camp Nou for nothing this summer. If I wanted.
Messi: “It is the club of my life, I have made my life here.”
However, it seems that he does not want or is not prepared to defend his case before a judge and therefore he will stay there, at least until the end of the 2020/21 season.
Barca fans will have a chance to say goodbye to the club’s all-time top scorer and he can look forward to a new sporting project elsewhere in 2021.
This proves one can change mind now and then.
What a crazy 11 days have been.
