IPL 2020 Date announced
The new dates for IPL 2020 have been confirmed by the IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel to be from September 19 – November 9 and will be hosted in the UAE. The detailed schedule is yet to be announced.
Welcome to the part-2 of the IPL series. In the previous part, we analyzed the strengths and weaknesses and the playing 11 of both Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. Hope you enjoyed the part-1 of this series. Let’s get into the part-2.
In this part, we are going to see about two teams which are strong in the paper- Royal challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. These two southern teams are completely different in their nature of playing.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore lead by their aggressive captain Virat Kohli. Some great players were part of this franchise in the past. Even though they had some great players in the past, they haven’t won the IPL trophy, but never failed to entertain us by their gameplay. Memories and agonies were part of this franchise, but their fans never let them down. Arguably one of the best fanbases of IPL.
Their top-order has always been their strength right from season one. This season they have a good mix of Indian and foreign batsmen. They have good contenders for the opening slot. Aaron Finch, Parthiv Patel, Devdutt Padikkal, and Josh Philippe. Out of these four, Finch will be a goto opener. The Australian has quite good success in T20 although being inconsistent in IPL. Parthiv Patel can crack the opening slot as he is a keeper-batsman. Padikkal and Philippe are two exciting youngsters, expected to be given a chance in the mid-season of IPL 2020.
Following the openers, the no. 3 batsman will be obviously their captain Virat Kohli. He had lead from the front for his team in the past and expected to do the same with his batting partner AB de Villiers.
Middle and Lower-middle order:
Up at no. 4, Ab de Villiers will be a goto batsman for RCB wherever they play. Mr.360 has played some unbelievable innings for them in their past. Even though being out of international cricket, Abd is expected to play the same as he did before. A class player can never be written off.
Going to no.5 position, Shivam dube an exciting and promising youngster will come into play. An aggressive left-hander can be given a role to finish the games for his team. Another prospect is, Dube can bowl too. This add some vareity and strength to the RCB bowling attack.
Chris Morris must be their no.6 batsman. This hard-hitting right-handed batsman will be a good addition for RCB to finish close games for them. RCB had missed this kind of finisher in the previous years by missing depth in their batting. Moeen Ali may replace Morris in spin-friendly pitches. Following up, Washington Sundar can be a good no. 7 batsman. This all-rounder is a handy off-spinner. Sundar played a vital role for RPS during 2017 playing under Steve Smith.
They have a good attack this season with South Africa’s Dale Steyn leading the attack. Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini are the other two pacers for RCB. Saini can be a good death bowler too, this can reduce runs leaked by RCB in the death overs. Considering spinners, Yuzi Chahal has a lot of work to do for his team supported by Washington Sundar.
Strengths and weaknesses:
RCB’s strength has always been their top-order batsmen. Having players like Aaron Finch, V Kohli, and AB de Villiers RCB’s top order is strong. But the question is, do they have a promising finisher who can finish the games? Well, the answer is, No! Their depth in the batting line-up has always been questioned when the top order fails to give a good start. Their pace attack is good after the inclusion of Dale Steyn in the previous season of IPL, but their death bowling is always been a question mark.
RCB’s probable playing 11:
Aaron Finch, Parthiv Patel(wk), Virat Kohli(c), Ab de Villiers, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris/Moeen Ali, Washington Sundar/Pawan Negi, Dale Steyn, Umesh Yadav, N Saini, Y Chahal.
Pawan Negi will feature in the 11, in case Moeen Ali plays to provide variety in spin-friendly pitches.
And if they need depth in their batting line-up, the following 11 will be handy,
Aaron Finch, Parthiv Patel(wk), Virat Kohli(c), Ab de Villiers, Moeen Ali, Chris Morris, Shivam Dube, P Negi, Umesh Yadav, N Saini, Yuzi Chahal.

Sunrisers Hyderabad led by David Warner has been an exciting side to watch out for this season of IPL. Having led the team to the victory against RCB in 2016, David Warner has been called to captain SRH once again this season, amidst Kane Williamson’s good captaincy run in 2018. One time IPL winner has a lot of things to work on their team
Arguably SRH has one of the dream top 3 in IPL history. Led by their Captain David Warner and their keeper-batsman Johnny Bairstow as the opening pair Kane Williamson will be their no. 3 batsman. Both the openers had given some great starts to SRH’s innings in the last season of IPL, especially Warner had a dream season last year scoring 692 runs in 12 matches.
Kane Williamson at no. 3 may play a sheet-anchor role for SRH, ensuring to stay till the very end of SRH’ innings. Williamson not had a great season last year scoring 156 runs in 9 matches, soon after he was dropped from 11 due to injury reasons.
Middle and Lower-middle order:
Up at no.4, Manish Pandey will be a good option for SRH. This Karnataka middle order batsman has a point to prove this season of IPL, as it can be step to cement his place in the Indian batting lineup. Pandey is an extraordinary fielder who can save lot of runs for his team both inside and outside the 30-yard circle.
Vijay shankar will be my no. 5 batsman for SRH. Vijay shankar can bat as well as bowl, which adds luxury for the captain in using their bowlers. No. 6 will be the young Abhishek Sharma, who’s intent is to play aggressively or they may try W Saha. But trying Saha at lower down the order in t20s won’t be effective in my opinion.
Rashid Khan will be my no. 7 batsman. Rashid has evolved as a hard-hitter by playing in various T20 leagues around the world. The legspinner batting at this form is an asset for SRH’s playing 11.
SRH has a decent Indian pace attack whom can one always rely on led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvi has been in and out of the Indian team since last year’s WC due to injuries and has a point to prove in this season of IPL as the pacers in the Indian side is getting stronger with their performances.
Siddarth Kaul has impressed everyone with his performance for SRH in their previous two years of IPL. Then their third pacer will be either Khaleel Ahmed or Sandeep Sharma. As Khaleel is a left-arm medium-pacer, I would go with him in my 11. But if we consider the slower ones from Sandeep Sharma which will be handy in dry and slow conditions, he may get into the playing 11.
Considering Spinners, Shahbaz Nadeem will support Rashid khan in the spin attack. As the conditions are dry in UAE, these two will be handy against any opposition.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
SRH’ strength is similar to RCB. Their top 3 batsmen are their strengths in their batting line-up. Their weakness is they don’t have a proper finisher who end games well for them. They miss a proper power-hitter who can play towards the end of their innings.
Considering their bowling, it has always been their strength for years. They have a decent pace attack and having Rashid Khan in their spin attack is always a strength for any team. Their weakness is they don’t have a proper offspinner and they don’t have variety in their spin attack.
SRH’s probable playing 11:
David Warner(c), Jonny Bairstow(wk), Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma/ W Saha/Priyam Garg, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, S Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed.
Priyam Garg, a promising youngster will be my 12th man of this team. If he gets into the playing 11, he will play in place of Abhishek Sharma but he’ll play at no.3 and the other players will play accordingly.
If they need depth in their batting line-up, the following 11 will come to play,
David Warner(c), W Saha(wk), Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, M Nabi, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, S Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed.
Hope you enjoyed this part. See you soon with a new pair of teams
