Paris Saint Germain pulls of a late minute stealer against Atalanta, producing yet another memorable turnarounds in the history of the UEFA Champions League.
Atalanta nearly got it. The Italian team was on a 1-0 lead against the French champions PSG. But PSG held their nerves heading towards the 90th minute, Marquinhos scored an equalizer, assisted by their star player Neymar Jr.
PSG wins in the added time!
While thinking of a celebration for the equalizer, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scores the winning goal for them, three minutes to the added time, assisted by the Frenchman Mbappe, entering the semis of the UEFA Champions League after 25 long years.
Clearly, they were looked as favorites before the start of the match but this victory cannot be said in short words. Atalanta’s defenders couldn’t face the pace of the PSG strikers. Although PSG strikers couldn’t convert the chances produced into goals. Especially, Neymar failed to convert two gifted easy chances. If it was converted it would have been an easy win for PSG.
It almost seemed like Mario Pašalić’s early goal at 26′ couldn’t pull off a win for them. This game was considered as a huge heartbreak for Atalanta, who was considered as an underdog throughout the tournament. A point to note is, they were playing their first UEFA Champions League.
The French striker Kylian Mbappe even though started the game on the bench. After being subbed in, he boosted the morale of the PSG forward attack. He and Neymar together provided the vital chances for the late minute stealer for their team.
Even though Neymar couldn’t finish the two gifted chances, he played a crucial role in the middle, charging the attack for his team. Especially when he nutmegged Atalanta’s Pašalić, he nearly went on to score a stunner for his team. Unfortunately, Atalanta’s goalkeeper stood strong to pull off a fine save for his team.
Despite missing some chances, Neymar was awarded player of the match, proving his worth for his team. He shines as a key player for his team. The Brazillian provided some key-passes which was soothing in the eyes of his fans. As a team, they really played well till the end.
This game gave great delight for the PSG fans, but agony for the Atalanta fans. Overall it was a treat to watch the game. Those who have missed it must watch this spectacular comeback from PSG.
