Time flies and all we have are memories. Today 12 years ago, Yuvraj Singh took Stuart Broad to the cleaners to perform a historic feat in Durban during India’s league match in the opening World T20 against England.
September 19, 2019, marks the 12th anniversary of Yuvraj’s historic achievement against an unhappy Brad following a verbal argument with Andrew Flintoff. Although we never know if it has stopped the UV, what we do know is that it is a night to remember?
Yuvraj was dismissed after a verbal altercation with England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff at the end of the 18th over. Then, left-hander, Stuart Broad took 36 off six balls in the 19th over to take the cleaners.
The play started when Men in Blue were in the first innings at the end of the 18th overs on 171/3. Yuvraj and later Captain MS. Since Dhoni was in crease, both of them were trying to complete maximum by collecting more runs in death overs.
Yuvraj hit Andrew Flintoff for two fours in the 18th over, which angered the England bowler. The pair engaged in a major argument, which ended after the intervention of the umpires on the field.
However, the verbal argument was that it provoked Yuvraj and it was Stuart Broad who bore the brunt of his attack in the next over.
In the 19th over of the innings, the Punjab left-arm batsman ensured that England paid the price for their high aggression and hit six consecutive maximums from Broad.
The first was followed by a deep mid-wicket, the next over by a backward square foot, the third by a wide long over, then by a swat at a deep point for a full toss, the fifth by a hike over a square foot, and finally by a wide hit wide.
Yuvraj hits a 50 of 12 balls!!
In the process, the Punjab-boy hit a fifty off 12 balls, the first time a T20I had taken place. This is the fastest fifty to date in the short form of the game.
Yuvraj Singh eventually finished with 58 off 16 balls (three fours and seven sixes) as India scored 218 for 4. In return, England was restricted to 200/6, giving India an 18-run victory.
